before an early morning workout
I am at the gym by 6:30 am. I usually do not wake up early enough to eat and digest a regular breakfast before my workout? does anyone have ideas for a quick bites before an early morning workout or should i just wait to eat after the workout, is that healthy?

before an early morning workout
I used to swim in the morning and would have a glass of OJ before. The sugar would hold me over. Maybe a protein bar on the way?

Eating & Early Morning Workouts
Madi
I saw your post and have been there. I like to work out in the morning too. I talked to my doctor (who also works out in the morning) about how much to eat before a workout AND how long to wait after you eat before working out. He told me to wait at least two hours after a meal if it was a "real" meal, and that what he does is eat 1/2 a banana just before he works out. This get things going, does not cause problems with having to wait after a meal, and it puts something in the stomach so you don't get weak and feel sick during or after the workout. My wife and I both have been using his trick for about six months now. We do resistance training some morning and cardio on inbetween days. I hope you find the right light starter snack that works for you.

eating before a morning workout
I like to eat something light like a yogurt and a small piece of fruit. I was once told that you shoud eat protein before working out. This helps you to burn fat and not muscle.
Good luck. I know it's hard to eat first thing in the morning.

fiber first
i find that eating a serving of cereal and a piece of fruit holds me over for my morning workouts. i love kashi's organic cinnamon harvest cereal. not only is it delicious, but it's very high in fiber which is always a plus when it comes to your metabolism, and it's loaded with complex carbohydrates.

a little advice
my uncle is really into working out and lifting. he said to definitely eat something before your morning workout and eat right after. a small bowl of cereal would be perfect before, but if you don't have time, a banana would be good to grab on the way. you should be eating protein right after the workout. egg whites would be perfect, but if you're going right to work or something maybe you could do a protein bar or shake.
i don't think sugar before a workout is a good idea. you might get things going and then completely crash. doing something like that makes me feel sick.

my two cents
I feel like if you ask 30 experts a question on fitness they will give you 30 different answers. A trainer once told me to try and not eat anything before my morning workout so that I can burn already stored fat. I felt too sick to do this so what he suggested was 1/2 of mini bagel with peanut butter.
