workout ideas??
My name is Renee, I'm 31 yrs old and new to this site. I have a medical condition called Takayasus Arteritis, which is a rare disease that narrows my arteries. Because I have severe narrowing in my legs, even with stents. and in my arms, I can't walk for long periods of time or use my arms too long. Also can't stretch my arms above my head or I will pass out from my arms and head battling for blood flow. I've been over weight for as long as I can remember, but the meds that I'm on make it worse. I desperately want to lose weight. So my question for you all, with knowing a little of my history, does anyone have ideas for a workout routine that will be effective for losing weight but not too hard on my arms and legs? Sounds imposible to me, but was hoping someone might have some insight.

Hi Renee,

Have you talked to your doctor about a fitness routine? Even if they don't personally have answers they may be able to give you a referral to a licensed professional who could help you with a program.

That said, while doing both is healthy and they are complementary - most weight loss, IMO, comes from reducing your calorie intake over a sustained period of time. So, you CAN lose weight even if you just can't workout as long as it is ok with your doctor for you to reduce your daily calorie intake. Again, they may be able to refer you to a professional who would be able to help you devise an eating plan that will be ok for you to do.
