Why do we need testing?
Hi all,
After 20 years in testing, I've seen a lot of changes. Waterfall, V-Modell, RUP, Agile, UML, test automation, TDD, BDD, etc.
Even with all these "improvements" my life experience has been messy delivery, still finding lots of defects... all in all, achieving success through heroic effort. This process has never been easy.
It makes me wonder, "Why do we still need software testing? Why, despite all the new tools and methodologies, do we still allocate ~30% of our budget to testing?
I have a few ideas (increasing complexity and dependencies), but I'm interested in the opinions of others.
Some key questions:
Do you think the quality of requirements is increasing/deteriorating or has stayed the same over the last 10 years?
