New Beginnings - Day 1

I've been on a yo-yo gain/lose weight cylce for years. I'm sure that I've gained and lost 100+ lbs over the years. The problem is that most days I'm too lazy to exercise and I lay in bed after I eat dinner. Yep, you guessed it right, I then fall asleep. It's an unhealthy combination;  a recipe for Obesity. Which is were I am now, obese. However, knowing that hasn't forced me to make any lifestyle changes in the way I eat or exercise. The bad habits must be broken!

In addition, I have a disease, for which I have to take steroids. (Thanks to God and Jesus Christ, my Healer, I've been managing it well). But in mid 2010, I got real sick and was prescibed a heavier dose of steroids along with some other medicines, all of which caused me to gain an additional 20 lbs. But having a disease is no excuse for eating poorly and not exercising regularly. I just haven't done it, because ____.

I'm 49, 5'0", overweight, can no longer fit into my size 16 jeans, and 20 size blouses are tight. Nothing to be proud about! I'm out of control simply because I haven't exercised self-control. It's time to do something about the bad habits. It's time to make some real serious, adaptable changes in my life, for life. To accomplish any lifestyle change, you must start somewhere. So I've finally decided that I must start with eating healthy and exercising regularly. Because I know I can't do it alone and need to be accountable to someone other than myself, I've joined Fitclick.com and started this blog. I believe both will help me to focus on my target goal of losing 91 lbs by August 30, 2011.

Because I have poor eating habits and am a beginner to regular exercise, the plan is to monitor my food intake daily and exercise regularly. Unlike in the past, this time I'm going to pace myself, start slow and do it right. The goal is to lose 1-2 lbs a week, by eating 4-5 (small) meals a day and exercise 3-4 times a week. I don't want to push myself early on and burn out, so I'll build from that starting point and slowly increase the number of days of exercise until I reach my ideal weight, 115 builds/size 8 jeans. I think it's doable. Just have to remain steadfast -- August 30, 2011 will be here before I know it. I want to look back from that date and say, I did it!.

My only concern right now is maintaining the weight loss after I achieve my goal. But that's a concern that I can't control now. So I'm moving onward and forward--taking it one day at a time. All any of us have and can control is today, so there's no need to be concerned about tomorrow.

I've heard that the path to success isn't always easy to find, and once on the path it's easy to go astray - been there done that. That's why this time I've chosen to take a passage way instead of a path. It's a narrow passage that allows me to slowly, but surely, grow out of my bad habits and develop new strengths and abilities. I'm sure you've heard of the passage way before. It's the passage of 'Discipline and Self-control'. That's exactly what I need to accomplish my new lifestyle.

Today, Day 1, I started down that long narrow passage way. I accomplished a 60 minutes exercise--5 mile Walk Away the Pounds-- and ate 4 meals. I feel good about what I accomplished today! It's a new beginning for me, and with the help of the Lord, I plan to finish strong!!

Stay tuned.
