Ok, so my new years resolution was to lose 10 pounds by my birthday (March 2nd) and I figured it would be hard, but doable.  The problem is I have never been much of an exerciser and as a kid, teenager, and very young adult, I was always pretty skinny without having to do much.  Sadly, at 30 and after having a child, my metabolism isn't what is was 10 years ago (oh, don't we all wish is were) and those last 10 pounds of after-baby weight haven't left me for almost 5 years.  Now, I was thinking I could stand to lose a few pounds before I got pregnant. Now, I'd be extatic if I were back to my pre-pregnancy weight.

Okay, so here I am a little over a week into my tracking-what-I-eat diet.  I want to lose 10 pound - and I know: it's not that much to lose - and I know: I not really "overwieght," but I'm just being realistic.  I have NEVER lost a pound (and I'm not counting after giving birth to my son, that would be bad if I hadn't lost ANY of those 52 pounds).  I've just been slowly gaining weight all through my 20's, so this is sort of like a present to myself: live healthier. Excercise, drink more water, stop eating candy and things you don't need (most of the time).

I thought I would start by tracking what I eat normally, just to see how bad off I am.  What I found out is that tracking what you eat REALLY helps! I wasn't eating too poorly to begin with (at least I thought), but now that I have to account for every calorie and gram of fat I eat, I find myself making much better choices and even saying "no thanks" to free coffee cake and truffles in the break room at work.

Then I bought myself a treadmill - a small price to pay for lifelong health, I think (it was used, so it cost about $200).

Ok, so I know it's only been 1 week, but I thought that with a week of calorie deficit, I would have lost something . . . or at least not gained anything . . . I've been weighing myself each workday morning (on a medical scale - I work in a medical office) and I've gained 1.4 lbs. - HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!

It's very frustrating! But, I do get some sort of sick joy out of all this recording and plotting to stay under my planned calorie level.  I just hope this works . . . maybe I'm having a fluke week.
