After Crummey’s release, it is important to develop a proper objectives and goals to enhance his successful re-entry in the community. Crummey should understand certain key areas in order to enhance his successful reentry in the community. First, the offender should use the programs learned during incarceration to build his life. Some of the programs learned include life skills, anger management and vocational training among others. The programs are designed to rehabilitate the offenders to change their life perception. Thus, offender Crummey should implement all programs learned during incarceration to avoid probation violations. Secondly, the offender must rely on the community-based programs designed to facilitate initial reentry into the society (Rex, Ellis, Hosking, & Hyett, 2012). The community-based programs include housing assistance, searching for jobs, and educational assistance. Being employed, changes the thinking and moral reasoning of the offenders since they are able to think about their work and need to make their living in the society. The offender should recognize the importance of the programs that are aimed at assisting in his successful reentry in the society. This reciprocal path could assist in the short-term adjustment and focus on his life.

Another crucial area is to implement long-term programs to foster his reintegration into the community. The offenders should rely on the long-term initiatives such as support for continuation of employments and follow up by health care providers. This area guides the offender towards his reentry and transition to the community. For instance, the service providers employing the offender are required to work with correctional counsel to monitor and address critical issues to the offender. The long-term programs have been useful in reducing the rate of recidivism in the society. Crummey is expected to put more efforts and commitment towards the key areas in order to enhance his successful reentry into the community. Most importantly, the offender should be well aware of the probation laws and guidelines (Duwe, 2012). The probation laws guides the conduct of the offender after his release that is another major area the offender should be keen to observe. Therefore, the offender should seek to use the programs learned during incarceration, community based programs, as well as promote the implementation of these programs in the long-term.

Community resources and programs would be provided through the partnership between the community and referral services to enhance the successful reentry of the offender. First, the department of corrections should provide extensive counseling programs depending on the mental and health status of the offenders. Some of the counseling programs include substance abuse, sex offenders and mental health programs as well as the Cognitive Behavioral Therapies programs. The Educational programs must also be provided to the offender through the charter school organization, educational administration organizations and ESL sessions (Petersilia & Reitz, 2012). This comprehensive approach provides learning opportunity to the offender in order to promote his literacy, language and life skills.

Some of the community resources includes the provision of halfway houses, shelter and food assistance that both recognize and indicates the significance of the residential programs towards the settling of the offenders. Employment programs and assistance are another community programs that assists offenders in finding and retaining their jobs in their community. Such initiatives are aimed at providing comprehensive support programs to the ex-offenders. Family support groups are useful community groups to assists the offenders in their family reintegration. Other community resources and programs that should be provided to the offender include legal assistance, tattoo removal, and mentoring services.

Personally, I think the offender’s home plan is appropriate to ensure a successful reentry into the life of the community. The point is, the home plan indicates the general overview of the residence condition including the rent, room, telephone, address, relationship with residents, and source of income of the residence. Thus, the home plan meets the requirements of the parole conditions to promote successful reentry of the offender. There are certain changes that should be made to the home plan before its approval. First, the home plan should clarify their offenders’ legality in leaving in the public houses. Some of public housing does not permit offenders who were previous lessees on the housing units (Duwe, 2012). Such guideline would help the probation officer in understanding the offender’s home plan. The offender should not only indicate the availability of a room, but also the availability of adequate sleeping accommodation. There must be a sleeping accommodation for the offender for the home plan to be approved.

Most importantly, the offender should indicate the presence of community based programs within the proposed residence after release. This sentiment helps in depicting the nature of support and assistance available to him to enhance his successful reentry. The offender must outline how he would be able to comply with the treatment programs such as therapy and counseling among others. The treatment options are critical towards improving successful reentry in the community (Rex et al., 2012). The home plan did not indicate the security situation of the residence. The offender should indicate clearly the security level in the nearby residence. The changes would be appropriate towards enhancing the approval of the home plan.

The offender should check in with the team at least once in a week that equals for the offender to check in four times in a month. The checks in should take place in a specified place by the team such as a nearby public office or at his residence. However, the frequency of the checks in depends on the nature of previous offences committed by the offenders. For instance, sex offenders should check in two times in a week due to the susceptibility to returning to their old behavior. The checks in are significant towards providing legal and professional assistance to the offender in relation to their probation period. This measure also helps in controlling their behaviors during the probation period (Petersilia & Reitz, 2012). Most importantly, such appointments provide consultative guidelines to the offenders regarding their bail and probation conditions. One check in a week is effective in assessing the progress of the offenders in adapting to their community. As a result, the offender should check in with team once in a week.

Various ways can be used in determining the progress of the offenders in meeting their goals and objectives. The transition plan is effective in assessing the progress of the offenders towards achieving their goals and objectives. The plan indicates the goals and objectives of the offenders to a successful reentry in their community. The offender should be present in the team meetings in order to examine their progress towards achieving their goals (Duwe, 2012). For instance, the transition plan indicates how the training programs and skills learned during incarceration helps the offenders. Thus, effective transition plan would help in assessing the progression of the offender in achieving their goals and objectives.

The team can also use incentives and sanctions that form an essential part of the community supervision. They both help in fostering enhanced accountability of the offenders to meet their objectives. This approach is crucial in promoting the long-term successful reentry of the offenders to the community. Creative sanctions help in dealing with offender violations during the supervision period (Petersilia & Reitz, 2012) since they help in understanding the credibility and capability of the offenders meeting their requirements. Other ways of understanding progress of offenders towards their objectives includes obtaining feedback from the self-help groups and family involvement groups among others. These guidelines help identify some of ways that can be used in assessing progress of the offender in achieving his short-term and long-term goals and objectives.
