The study presents managerial traits of Emily, a fictional character, who takes up a role of a human resource manager at Mag-Tech computers, a company owned by Magdalene. The character’s traits are well laid out as well as how she strived to acquire the managerial traits she has now. Managerial Traits

Management as a role involves one being in charge of others while undertaking a task. In an organization, a manager is an individual who foresees the activities of other employees and the performance of the business entity. For effective execution of this role, an individual requires good managerial traits. These characteristics will determine the relationship between the manager and the employees and, in return, this plays a role in their performance. Emily, a human resource manager at Mag-Tech computers, exhibits these traits. Mag-Tech Company deals with purchasing, selling and repairing computers and their accessories. Emily has managed to foresee the success of the firm for a long time because of her excellent skills. Thus, good management traits are essential for a manager to be able to develop a therapeutic relationship with the employees for the success of a company.

Personality of the Character

Just like other great managers, Emily is flexible regarding any change. Suggestions for alterations do not only come from her but also from the other employees, and she gladly listens to them. Emily spends most of her time observing people to know what challenges and what motivates them. She also reads many psychology books with an aim to try and understand the employees better. She is so observant in that she notices even the slightest actions one takes. She is quite a good leader who is enthusiastic, keen, emotionally stable and self-assuring. Emily has proven to be reliable in her tasks, and even though sometimes she is affected by family issues, she does not let them interfere with her daily work. Stress and frustrations have never intervened with her work, since she manages to handle her tasks and organizational decisions effectively.

How Emily Developed her Management Traits

Most managers acquire their management traits from the organizations where they work. Emily was employed when she was barely an effective manager but the then human resource manager guided her through by giving her several orientations in every aspect of that position. This made her adopt the feeling of control over organization tasks, and she developed a sense of belonging to the company. Emily’s continuous working at the organization has also sharpened her managerial skills. She has learnt how most issues can be tackled to attain a solution. Emily has also learnt from books, training and even business forums in which she participated.

Management Traits that Emily Possesses

Emily ensures the business culture is maintained. She takes her free time to explain to the new employees what is expected of them, the values, priorities and beliefs of the organization. She educates them on how they are supposed to behave and handle work at their various positions. The ability to maintain an organizational culture while upholding the set standards is an important aspect in an organization (Nica, 2013). Emily also exhibits passion and a positive attitude towards her work. She regularly checks on the employees to know if they are satisfied with the work progress, and this has motivated many workers to even stay in the workplace for extra hours trying to accomplish their tasks perfectly. Effective decision-making is another trait Emily possesses. This characteristic is needed in organizations in critical moments (Kaner, 2014). A decision has to be made at such times for the organization to take the right path. Emily can execute her duties well and make good decisions without much supervision.

These traits are important for an organization. Maintaining the culture of the business entity guarantees streamlined operations at the workplace (Nica, 2013). Employees focus on common goals and strive to achieve them together. Having a positive attitude motivates the personnel to love their work and be more productive (Walter, 2016). This enhances a good relationship between the employees and the manager which is good for an organization. Good decision making comes in handy during a crisis or when risks need to be taken. Risk-taking is good in business but it is worth to note which risks are worth taking. A good decision maker will take calculated risks (Bolton, Mehran & Shapiro, 2015). Good decisions foster business growth.

How to Develop each Trait as an Individual

Learning leadership traits is not quite easy, and it requires dedication and passion to lead others. Attending training workshops, being educated and informed through books and having experience in that area can help one be a better leader ( Kinicki & Kreitner, 2012). For me to acquire managerial traits like Emily, I will invest my time in reading books to have some knowledge on leadership skills. I will then attend seminars to learn how to improve my management skills.

Possible Disadvantages of Having these Traits

One trait that can have a possible disadvantage is the strict abiding to an organizational culture that is so rigid. This makes it hard to embrace changes, since the whole team is so used to handling tasks in a certain way (Nica, 2013). Employees can even plan for an industrial action to oppose any alterations. Having a high passion towards work can affect the organization in that workers tend to set unachievable goals. The inability to attain them can later discourage employees, and this will affect their performance.

How the Selected Traits Have Been Used Effectively in my Life

Being a good decision maker has helped me make good financial decisions. I have been able to invest wisely in small businesses that have generated profits. Having a good attitude has also helped me to focus on my studies and be able to work hard so that I can be successful in life.

Marketing the Traits

· I am an easy learner who takes instructions carefully. I have also previously volunteered and worked in organizations, and I have learnt to embrace the organizational cultures present. Being open to new skills has taught me to embrace change, and I can market this by being a role model to the others.

· The positive attitude that I possess motivates me to work harder in order to achieve more. My success in teamwork will motivate my colleagues to adopt my attitude. This way I would have marketed the trait to them. Working in a team will make it easier to achieve the goals I have set for myself.

· Regarding decision making, I can make good decisions with the knowledge I have and encourage my teammates to think effectively before selecting the final decision. This will cultivate this aspect in them, and they will get used to it.

How I Relate to My Character

I can comfortably work under my character if I was an employee with the zeal to learn. I can be a good role model to the employees and encourage them to embrace good skills.

Conclusion

Good managerial traits are what any manager needs for effective control of an organization. Emily portrays good traits which include dedication to embrace the organizational culture, passion and positive attitude towards her work and good decision-making skills. These traits have enabled her to run the company effectively. Emily acquired the skills through learning from forums and experience gained at the workplace. She is very keen and very observant. A comparison of the fictional character with me depicts that I should embrace good managerial skills to achieve my goals while being a role model to others.
