I had my first "but I don't want to" moment this morning. How did I deal? By lacing up my sneakers and going for a walk.
Tracking what I eat is proving to be more difficult to stick with. The good news is that I can start tracking all over again tomorrow...

Evidently it is not as easy to track meals, etc while my husband is home all day. Oh well. I'll have to try much harder to get some computer time next weekend.
Still walking each day. Still starting the day off with a glass of water before I walk and one after my walk. (2 more glasses a day than I'm used to!)
Short term goal in addition to my other daily goals: work harder to remain within the "safe range" on my daily tracker.
Today...

Ok. That was ugly. Of course I knew it would be.
Hosting a New Year's party was bound to be a risky move, especially so early in my quest for fitness.
I won't tell you how many calories I consumed, but I will say that it was a lot. BUT...on the positive side, I logged every one AND I got my ass out of bed this morning and went walking. Short-term goals are still in check.
Maybe my next group of short-term goals will include calorie counting.

A new year ahead. After tonight's party there are no more excuses for me on the horizon. I'm 40, horribly out of shape and joints ache that never did before. If I don't actually WORK at this, it will simply begin to spiral out of control.
So, while I'm not big on resolutions, I know that I have plenty of resolve. Enough to stick to my short term goals. If I string together enough of them, maybe I'll see progress.
Happy New Year!

Didn't log in yesterday, but was mindful of what I ate. Brunch at my in-laws could have been disasterous calorie-wise, but I knew that at some point, I'd be forced to log it all. That's a great tool. A bit horrible to see in black & white...but useful. I'm definitely noticing a trend. My carb intake is high, my protein intake is low. I consume about 500 useless calories a day...or more. Ouch. Personal short-term goal: log every bite...no matter how painful...for one week.

Well, ok. It was probably silly to start a diet with two more holiday parties on the horizon PLUS out of state visitors here all this week. I guess I'll just use last night's dinner (appetizers before, dessert after) as a learning tool. I'm back today and will continue trying.
NOTE: Tracking food is an AMAZING way to see how many wasted calories and carbs go into my mouth. If only it were an Olympic sport! Pillsbury could sponsor me...

Let's get healthier! (rah-rah-rah!)
Right.
If only it were that easy!
It's only day one and I'm already hearing the sarcastic voice in my head, the one I usually try to keep quiet with cookies, telling me that it simply can't be done. I've tried it a THOUSAND times and I always give in.
So, for today, my personal goal is to take things hour-by-hour and meal-by-meal. I will tell that nay-saying voice in my head to shut the hell up...ju...
